APOTHECARY No. 25 · MADAGASCAR & THE INDIAN OCEAN
Vanilla planifolia · found in OMBYRA Massage & Body Oil
Vanilla is the fruit of a climbing orchid. Picked green, the pods have almost no scent — the aroma develops over months of curing, as they are sweated, sun-dried and slowly conditioned. Vanillin is the best-known of the compounds that form, but natural vanilla holds hundreds more, which give it its depth. In OMBYRA it is used as an extract of the cured pod.
Vanilla comes from Mexico, where the Totonac people grew it long before it reached Europe. Each flower opens for a single day; outside its native range it has no natural pollinator, so every flower is still pollinated by hand — a technique first used in 1841 on Réunion by twelve-year-old Edmond Albius.
In OMBYRA, vanilla rounds the resins with a soft, skin-close sweetness that lingers after the massage.
INCI: Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract
