APOTHECARY No. 24 · PROVENCE & THE MEDITERRANEAN
Lavandula angustifolia · found in OMBYRA Massage & Body Oil
True lavender is steam-distilled from the flowering tops of a small Mediterranean shrub. Its character comes mainly from two naturally occurring compounds, linalool and linalyl acetate — the reason both appear on the allergen list of oils that contain it. Few scents have been studied as often: lavender is one of the most researched materials in aromatherapy, valued for its calm, clean, softly herbal note.
The name is usually traced to the Latin lavare, “to wash”: the Romans scented their baths and linen with it. On the high plateaus of Provence, the purple fields are still cut in high summer, when the flowers hold the most oil.
In OMBYRA, lavender brings a clean, herbal brightness that lifts the orange blossom above the warm resins.
