APOTHECARY No. 22 · THE HORN OF AFRICA & ARABIA
Commiphora myrrha · found in VEYIRA Massage & Body Oil
Myrrh is the reddish-brown resin of a thorny desert shrub. It seeps from small wounds in the bark and dries into hard, glassy tears. Its oil is rich in furanosesquiterpenes, which give it a warm, bitter, deeply balsamic character — and, like the other great resins, it anchors lighter notes so a fragrance lingers.
Its name goes back to the Semitic word for bitter, murr. In ancient Egypt, myrrh was part of kyphi, the temple incense, and of the oils used in embalming. It is one of the three gifts of the Magi.
In VEYIRA, myrrh is the shadow: a warm, bitter-sweet depth that settles into the skin with the oil.
